About Us

Henry Street High School was officially opened by Dr. C.F. Cannon, Deputy Minister of Education in November 1954. It was originally called Whitby District High School until the opening of Anderson Collegiate in 1960 with both schools then being named after their respective streets. Under its new name, Henry Street High School has offered a variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities for over 60 years.

This year, Henry Street is proud to welcome about 1050 students serving the southern and western areas of Whitby as well as downtown Whitby. Our academic programs serve students in grades 9 through grade 12. Our mission statement is “Henry Street High School provides quality education that promotes excellence. Staff encourage students to become responsible citizens with a strong sense of self-worth and integrity.” At Henry Street, it is our hope that all of our students become confident and responsible members of their local communities as well as the wider global community. Aside from our academic programs, students are able to choose from a wide range of athletic pursuits as well as more than 40 clubs and student groups. Whether it is through participation in traditions like Rivalry Week, representing the school playing for the Hawks sports teams or being part of a club, we encourage students to get involved in student life at Henry Street to complement their academic experience.
